We're better and bolder together. TPG Telecom started with a belief that we can make things better for Australians. We believe in the power of meaningful relationships to support vibrant, connected communities where everyone belongs. It's our why; our reason to exist. Now, we're proud to be one of Australia's leading mobile and internet providers. We're not just redefining telco, we're changing its course. And you play a role in that. A big one. The opportunities are plenty for those who are ready to accept the challenge.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on Cyber Security Engineering Specialist with a strong technical foundation and a passion for automation, secure systems design, and Python development. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining security capabilities that protect our infrastructure, data, and customers. You'll take ownership of key security tools and platforms, driving innovation and resilience through engineering excellence. As a System Technical Owner (STO), you'll lead the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of security technologies, with a focus on automation, integration, and continuous improvement. You'll work closely with vendors, architects, and platform teams to embed security into every layer of our technology stack.

Responsibilities
  • Designing, building, and maintaining secure systems and automation pipelines using modern DevOps and CI/CD practices, with a strong emphasis on Python development and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
  • Developing custom security tooling and integrations, leveraging APIs to connect and orchestrate data flows between disparate systems across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Owning the full engineering lifecycle — from ideation and prototyping to deployment, monitoring, and operational support — ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Collaborating with security architects, developers, and platform teams to embed security into the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Building and maintaining automated detection and response capabilities, integrating with SIEM, EDR, IAM, and other security platforms to enhance visibility and control.
  • Proactively identifying and remediating risks by automating manual processes, improving system reliability, and applying security best practices.
  • Contributing to incident response and post-incident engineering, including root cause analysis, remediation automation, and resilience improvements.
  • Communicating technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, adapting messaging for developers, leadership, and compliance teams.
  • Promoting a culture of security by conducting secure code reviews, mentoring peers, and advocating for security-by-design principles.
  • Ensuring operational governance, capacity planning, and performance monitoring of assigned platforms and tools.
  • Upholding TPG Telecom's reputation by maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets and systems.
  • Adhering to internal policies and procedures, and actively promoting security compliance across the organization.
Qualifications
  • Essential: Strong hands-on experience with Python for automation, scripting, and tool development.
  • Proficiency in DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and IaC.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security (AWS), network security, and application security principles.
  • Experience with security platforms such as CyberArk, ArcSight, SentinelOne, Vectra, Splunk, SailPoint, and Microsoft/AWS security tools is not essential but will help.
  • Familiarity with security domains including IAM, EDR, SIEM, DLP, MFA, API Security, and Email Security.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in regulated or complex environments is a plus.
  • Passion for continuous learning, staying updated with emerging threats and technologies.
    • Desirable: Previous experience in Telecommunications.
    • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or GSEC will help.
    Benefits
    • Flexible hybrid way of working (from home and office)
    • Stay Connected Mobile – Access to a free mobile plan
    • Stay Connected NBN – Access to a free NBN 100 plan
    • Your Leave - an additional 4 days of leave to be used whenever you like - every year
    • Access to TPG Learning Hub platform and internal development opportunities
    • Access to Corporate Partner Discounts
