Senior Dairy Cattle Stockperson

Location : Wallacedale, VIC 3303

Tenure : Full-time, permanent

Salary : From $68,864 per year (plus superannuation)

Required skills and experience :

  • AQF Certificate III in Agriculture / Dairy Production (or higher equivalent)
  • Three (3) years of recent and relevant work experience

On behalf of our client, Global Skilled Employment, we are looking for skilled candidates for the position of Senior Dairy Cattle Stockperson to join the production team of a dairy in Wallacedale, VIC 3303.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Plan all aspects of milk production, including management and coordination of milking shed routines.
  2. Coordinate and implement reproductive programs, including artificial insemination and herd fertility management, detection of estrous, and pregnancy.
  3. Assist in controlled breeding experiments to develop improved livestock strains.
  4. Implement calving procedures, including conducting internal assessments to minimize stillbirths or injuries to cows or calves.
  5. Plan and manage pastures and crops for livestock production and develop feeding plans.
  6. Analyze produce to set and maintain quality standards.
  7. Supervise animal health programs, handle sick or injured animals, and maintain an environment consistent with the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines – Cattle.
  8. Supervise work routines and staff performance, including less experienced employees such as assistant farmhands.
  9. Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures, ensuring compliance and proper documentation.
  10. Operate milking plant and equipment safely, recording instrument data such as milk vat temperatures and cow numbers, and matching cow IDs to calves.
  11. Operate a dairy recycling system.
  12. Perform calf feeding, including tubing colostrum.
  13. Assist with or perform irrigation works.
  14. Inspect livestock to evaluate feed effectiveness.
  15. Transport, handle, and store chemicals; prepare and apply chemicals.
  16. Operate farm and dairy shed vehicles, plant, and equipment.
  17. Identify and report equipment malfunctions; maintain plant and machinery.
  18. Perform maintenance on sheds, fixtures, fences, and install new equipment where qualified.
  19. Transport stock, feed, and equipment if licensed.
  20. Maintain records for stock and inventory control.
  21. Ensure compliance with food safety regulatory requirements.
  22. Contribute to and implement OHS requirements.
  23. Operate computer equipment and software packages.
  24. Coordinate responses to occupational health and safety and animal welfare emergencies.
  25. Participate in training sessions and workshops as required.
