Company Overview: A dynamic transport and logistics company, offering comprehensive solutions across supply chain management, freight forwarding, and storage and transportation services.

Position Summary: The Financial Controller will lead the financial and compliance functions while ensuring the company maintains high standards of safety, risk management, and financial integrity. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Financial Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the financial health of the organisation, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks, and driving safety initiatives throughout the organization. This role will require a combination of financial expertise, regulatory knowledge, and a focus on operational safety and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:Financial Management & Strategy:
  1. Develop and execute the company's financial strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives while maintaining high standards of safety and regulatory compliance.
  2. Provide expert financial guidance to the CFO, Managing Director and Board, driving decision-making related to growth, investments, and operational strategies.
  3. Oversee the preparation and presentation of financial statements, forecasts, and budgets to ensure clarity, transparency, and timely reporting.
  4. Identify and manage financial risks related to regulatory changes, safety compliance, and operational performance.
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
  1. Ensure the company complies with all local, national, and international financial regulations, including tax laws, reporting standards, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., transport safety standards, environmental regulations, etc.).
  2. Monitor changes in regulations that impact financial and operational aspects of the business, ensuring the company remains compliant.
  3. Work closely with internal and external auditors to manage compliance audits, including those related to financial controls, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.
  4. Ensure accurate and timely reporting to regulatory authorities and compliance with safety and environmental standards within financial processes.
Safety & Risk Management:
  1. Collaborate with the Operations and Safety teams to embed financial oversight in safety management systems, ensuring that safety programs are adequately funded and aligned with regulatory requirements.
  2. Lead efforts to maintain and enhance the company's safety performance through the allocation of financial resources to risk management, safety initiatives, and employee training programs.
  3. Develop risk assessment models that integrate financial considerations with safety performance, helping to mitigate the financial impact of accidents, safety violations, and non-compliance.
Internal Controls and Governance:
  1. Oversee the development and implementation of internal controls and financial policies to ensure adherence to compliance, safety, and ethical standards.
  2. Conduct regular reviews of financial practices and procedures to identify areas for improvement, ensuring the company operates efficiently and remains compliant with safety regulations.
  3. Work with senior management to integrate safety-related costs, liabilities, and risks into the company's financial forecasting and budgeting processes.
Cost Management & Operational Efficiency:
  1. Drive financial initiatives that optimize safety-related expenditures while maintaining a focus on cost-efficiency and profitability.
  2. Review operational safety costs (e.g., vehicle maintenance, driver training, compliance fines) and identify cost-saving opportunities that do not compromise safety or regulatory compliance.
  3. Implement financial strategies to support the optimization of the company's logistics operations, focusing on improving both cost-effectiveness and compliance with safety standards.
Leadership and Team Development:
  1. Lead and mentor the finance team, providing direction on safety compliance requirements, financial reporting, and risk management.
  2. Ensure that the finance team is well-trained in financial compliance and safety-related financial protocols.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations and safety, to align financial management with safety goals and risk mitigation.
Stakeholder Communication:
  1. Serve as the primary contact for financial and compliance-related communications with external auditors, regulatory bodies, and financial institutions.
  2. Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring they are well-informed of the company's financial status, compliance efforts, and safety performance.
  3. Regularly update the CEO, senior management, and Board of Directors on the financial and safety performance of the company, including emerging risks, regulatory changes, and compliance issues.
Qualifications & Education:
  1. A bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  2. CPA, CA, or MBA preferred.
Experience:
  1. Proven experience managing compliance with financial regulations and safety standards in a complex operational environment.
  2. Experience in overseeing risk management and safety compliance programs, particularly in the transportation and logistics sector.
Skills and Competencies:
  1. In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and industry-specific safety regulations (e.g., EPA).
  2. Proven ability to develop and execute financial strategies with an emphasis on regulatory compliance and safety.
  3. Strong risk management and safety-focused financial acumen, with experience integrating safety and compliance costs into financial planning.
  4. Excellent leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive operational and financial efficiency.
  5. Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
  6. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial and compliance information to senior executives and regulatory bodies.
