
Structural Designer I

GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in structural engineering, dedicated to delivering innovative and efficient solutions for a wide range of construction projects. We are seeking a Structural Designer I to join our dynamic team.
Responsibilities- Assist in the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations during a project's design phase life cycle from conceptual design to construction documents under close supervision and coordination with the Project Manager or Structural Project Engineer.
- Assist in the completion of construction administration tasks, such as reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and site visits, under close supervision and coordination with the Project Manager.
- Assist in the development of structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials.
- Review and revise designs based on feedback from senior designers and project stakeholders.
- Perform calculations and analyses to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Basic knowledge of CAD software, including Tekla Structures, and other tools to create 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Collaborate with team members, including engineers, modelers and detailers, to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality design solutions within budget.
- Participate in internal project design meetings to gain practical knowledge and understanding of project requirements.
- Stay updated with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques and technologies by actively participating in professional development activities.
- Basic knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
- Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction practices.
- Ability to identify and analyze problems, propose solutions, and make informed decisions; strong critical-thinking and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration within the project team.
- Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage project tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Keen eye for detail and awareness of how one's work fits into the overall design.
- Team orientation with collaboration and conflict-resolution skills.
- Adaptability to changing project plans and unexpected challenges.
- Proficiency in CAD software and related tools used in structural engineering; willingness to learn.
- Desire to stay updated with industry trends and regulatory changes.
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Structural focus.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification; maintain an NCEES record for licensure.
- Relevant coursework; previous internship(s) preferred.
- Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work at a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to travel for site visits to project locations around the country.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds if needed.
