Position summary

Working as part of the Strategic Planning and Sustainability team, you will provide ongoing leadership and support to the Sustainability and Environmental staff and supervise daily activities and operations. You will manage specific environmental planning projects, including the preparation of environmental management plans, and the preparation and implementation of environmental strategies and policies within the City of Rockingham. You will provide specialist advice on the protection, rehabilitation, enhancement and management of the City's natural environment. You will investigate and analyse very complex environmental matters, and devise and evaluate alternative solutions and recommendations.

Qualifications and experience

  • Extensive practical experience in sustainability development, environmental science, environmental management and/or related fields.
  • Significant experience in dealing with issues of sustainability and environmental matters in the planning process.
  • Significant experience in supervising professional and technical staff.
  • Detailed knowledge of Federal, State and Local Government strategies, policies and practices relating to sustainability, sustainable development and the environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of State of Environment Reporting, Natural Resource Management, Cities for Climate Protection and other relevant sustainability and environmental initiatives.

Requirements

  • Degree in Environmental Science or another related field. Postgraduate qualification in sustainability and environment management is desirable.
  • Current and valid C class driver's licence.

Accountabilities and duties

  • Lead and support the Sustainability and Environmental staff; supervise daily activities and operations.
  • Manage environmental planning projects and develop/implement environmental strategies and policies.
  • Provide specialist advice on protection, rehabilitation, enhancement and management of the City's natural environment.
  • Investigate complex environmental matters and propose viable solutions with recommendations.

Selection criteria

  • Extensive practical experience in sustainable development, environmental science, environmental management and/or related fields.
  • Experience in sustainability and environmental matters within planning processes.
  • Experience in supervising professional and technical staff.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local Government sustainability strategies, policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of State of Environment Reporting, Natural Resource Management, Cities for Climate Protection and related initiatives.

Salary and benefits

  • Gross salary range of $116,412 to $124,121 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.
  • 12% superannuation with option to co-contribute up to a further 5% (total up to 22%).
