Job Description

Queensland Law Society (the Society) has a full-time permanent opportunity for a Director Licensing, Operations and Policy to join the Licensing team. The Licensing team works within the Regulation Division to discharge the Society's regulatory functions under the Legal Profession Act 2007 (LPA).

The Director Licensing, Operations and Policy is responsible for:

  • The coordination of the multi-team regulatory actions undertaken by the Regulation Division.
  • Management of the Licensing team.
  • Ensuring that the regulatory records of the Society are kept accurately and according to law.
  • Assisting the General Manager, Regulation in developing the Society's regulatory policy.

In this role you will:

  • Coordinate the multi-team regulatory actions, ensuring the effective use of resources to regulate solicitors in Queensland.
  • Lead, manage and develop the Licensing team.
  • Manage complex, sensitive, and confidential legal matters.
  • Provide authoritative legal and policy advice to the General Manager, Regulation.
  • Manage the implementation of the Society's Strategic and Operating Plans by contributing to Regulation's business planning.
  • Deputise for the General Manager, Regulation.

Ideally you will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law, with at least 7 years post admission experience, a sizable part of which has been in private practice.
  • Current practising certificate or eligibility for grant of a local practising certificate.
  • Strong business planning and organisational skills with a proven ability to establish priorities, work under pressure and lead a team to meet deadlines.
  • Expert ability in statutory interpretation and provision of strategic, practical legal advice.
