Overview

The Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation (MAP Co) is the State Government agency responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation and provides governance and an operational structure to one of Melbourne's most iconic cultural spaces: Fed Square. MAP Co leads the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation, Australia's largest ever cultural infrastructure project, delivering The Fox: NGV Contemporary and the major rejuvenation of Arts Centre Melbourne (ACM), joined together by 18,000sqm of green public space. It also manages Fed Square and is responsible for connecting a single continuous art, civic, and cultural precinct stretching from Fed Square through Southbank. Once the transformation is complete, MAP Co will also manage and activate Laak Boorndap, the 18,000 urban garden that will connect the Melbourne Arts Precinct in a seamless and immersive cultural experience.

Fed Square is the gateway to the art precinct — and as Melbourne's public square it is the civic, cultural and community heart of the city. It is home to four of Victoria's major cultural institutions: ACMI - Australia's Museum of Screen Culture, the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT), Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia along with an array of restaurants and cafes. Located opposite the iconic Flinders St Station, it is Melbourne's premier meeting place, tourist destination and event venue for thousands of free events every year.

About the Role

This senior leadership role shapes the future of Melbourne's public and cultural landmark. Overseeing operations, assets, and the annual capital works program at Fed Square, you'll drive strategy, manage property and tenancies, and ensure the precinct delivers outstanding cultural, commercial, and community outcomes. It's a rare opportunity to lead one of Melbourne's most high-profile public spaces with impact and vision.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operations, assets and the annual capital works program at Fed Square.
• Drive strategy and manage property and tenancies to deliver cultural, commercial, and community outcomes.
• Lead stakeholder engagement and coordinate across cultural institutions, hospitality partners, tenants, contractors and government agencies.
• Monitor compliance with OHS, building and environmental codes to ensure safe, sustainable operation of the precinct.

Key Selection Criteria

• Proven senior leadership experience in precinct or asset management with the ability to oversee property, tenancy, operational excellence, and capital works delivery.
• Strength in stakeholder engagement, commercial acumen, and high-level negotiation, underpinned by strategic thinking and delivery performance.

Desired Experience / Qualifications

• 5+ years in senior leadership with expertise in operations, property or asset management.
• Tertiary qualifications in business, project or facilities management are highly regarded; postgraduate studies a plus.
• Strong commercial and financial skills are essential.

Position Specific Requirements

• Role spans property and tenancy management, contract oversight, asset and facilities management, and delivery of the annual capital works program.
• Balance strategic vision with hands-on operational leadership across cultural institutions, hospitality partners, tenants, contractors, and government agencies.
• Strong understanding of compliance obligations (OHS, Building and Environmental codes) to ensure safe, sustainable operation of this iconic public space.
