About the role
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is currently looking for part time or casual Animal Care Attendants at the Warra Rehoming Centre located in Bracken Ridge AWLQ Animal Attendants play a huge part in ensuring the welfare of our animals.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers to ensure welfare of animals in care including dogs, cats, livestock, and small pets is to the highest standard.
- Maintaining and cleaning of animal housing to a high standard.
- Providing a high standard of animal care including administering routine veterinary medications and treatments.
- Providing positive based enrichment and behaviour management programs for animals.
- Impounding and reuniting lost animals with owners.
- Assisting customers with pet meet and greets and adoptions.
- High level accuracy and attention to detail when updating animal and person records using our digital system.
- Exceptional customer service to all visitors to the Rehoming Centre.
What are the minimum requirements for this position?
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience with animal care in a professional environment.
- Previous animal industry experience in a similar capacity with dogs and cats.
- National Police Clearance Certificate.
- Experience using digital management software and inputting data.
- Certificate III in Animal Studies, Companion Animals, Dog Training or Behaviour qualification. It is not essential but would be highly desirable.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- The ability to work in a team and independently.
- Experience working with dogs, cats and livestock.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability with animal quarantine and disease management.
- Confident dog and cat handling skills, able to read body language and communicate animal behaviour.
- Computer skills, able to use Microsoft Office, email and data management systems.
- Be able to work a 7 day roster – which covers weekends and public holidays, with a 6pm finish on some shifts.
- Reliable transport and the ability to work at both our North and South Brisbane Rehoming Centres.
