About The Role

We're currently seeking a keen and passionate Drill & Blast Engineer to join our high-performing team at the QCoal Northern Hub—a unique site just an hour's drive from the stunning Whitsundays. We are currently seeking a keen and passionate engineer to join our high-performing team at our QCoal Northern Hub; situated a mere 1 hour drive from Bowen and the beautiful Whitsundays. The position offers either FIFO from Brisbane or DIDO from Townsville or Mackay, all-the-while working in a positive workplace and getting the opportunity to develop themselves in the mining engineering space.

This role is ideal for someone with a solid understanding of open cut drill and blast best practices and proven experience across the full drill and blast process—from drill prep through to tie-up and firing. You'll report to the Senior Mining Engineer and work collaboratively to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality blasting outcomes in a variety of geological conditions.

We also welcome applications from talented Mining Engineers looking to transition into the drill and blast space—you'll be supported every step of the way.

Working a 8/6 roster, your key responsibilities in this role will include:

• Delivery of day-to-day outputs:
  • Drill prep requirements
  • Drill pattern designs
  • Loading/Blast exclusion maps
  • Load sheets
  • Timing designs
  • Tie-up plans
  • Blast reconciliation
• Providing technical guidance to production supervisors, hole dippers and loading contractors
• Collating information into blast packs
• Delivery of the weekly Drill and Blast meeting
• Setup of blast monitoring equipment
• Developing improvements in the Drill and Blast space to deliver good blasting outcomes
  
  

About You

• Keen, passionate and positive attitude
• Prior experience in open cut drill and blast engineering (approx. 2 years minimum)
• Bachelor of Engineering (Mining, Civil or other)
• Experience in Vulcan and ShotPLUS
• Proficient in MS Office
• Experience engaging with relevant Drill and Blast stakeholders
• Well-developed written and oral communication skills
• Willingness to relocate or currently live between Mackay and Townsville
