We're partnering with a NSW Government agency to recruit a Finance & Compliance Manager for a newly created leadership role.
The position has been established to manage the organisation's growing Community Investment Program, with a particular emphasis on grants management. This is a high-impact role where you'll ensure programs are delivered effectively and that all financial, compliance, and risk obligations are met.
Key Focus Areas:
Grants Management (priority)
- Lead and oversee a significant grant funding program supporting community initiatives.
- Provide expert guidance to a team of grants officers, ensuring compliance, accountability, and best practice.
- Ensure all grant assessment, reporting, and governance processes align with state requirements.
- Manage operational budgets, expenditure, financial reporting, and forecasting.
- Provide clear and accurate financial reports and advice to the Executive Director and Board.
- Oversee financial audits and ensure robust financial controls are in place.
- Ensure adherence to the NSW Government Grant Administration Guide and relevant legislation.
- Lead compliance, risk management, and audit processes.
- Contribute to ministerial briefings, reports, and submissions.
- Lead and support a small, capable team of 2 Senior Project Officers, 1 Project Officer, and 1 Assistant Project Officer.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and collaborate with government partners and Aboriginal communities.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, ensuring community priorities are supported and delivered.
Working Arrangements:
- Hybrid flexibility – Mascot office base, no fixed office days.
- The Executive Director attends the office a couple of days per week, so occasional office presence is expected.
- Systems in use: Objective and Smart Events (experience preferred but not essential).
- An acting manager will provide a handover until late September.
We're looking for a seasoned finance and compliance professional who can lead with confidence in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. You will bring:
- Strong experience in finance and grants management (grants experience is particularly valued).
- Proven track record in budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and risk management.
- Leadership experience managing and mentoring small teams.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across government and community organisations.
- An ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
- Familiarity with systems such as Objective, Smart Events, SAP, Xero, MYOB, or similar (desirable, not essential).
Newly created leadership role with scope to shape governance and processes
High-impact work supporting meaningful community initiatives
Hybrid flexibility – based in Mascot, no fixed office days
Competitive hourly rate with super
6-month contract with potential for extension
