Southern NSW Local Health District is recruiting to fill the role of Aboriginal Health Worker – Cancer Care Coordinator. This position supports culturally safe primary health care for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples within a multidisciplinary team, focusing on cancer care coordination and health promotion in the local community.
What You'll Be DoingThe Aboriginal Health Worker works as a key member of the multidisciplinary team to provide primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, addressing the physical, emotional, cultural and environmental needs of individuals and communities. Duties include planning, delivering and evaluating health care and health promotion initiatives, and contributing to the documentation and data reporting required for patient records and care planning.
Selection Criteria / Qualifications- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. This is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
- Hold a minimum of Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care OR a relevant Certificate III health qualification OR a formal commitment to complete a Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care with training supported by the district and completed within 2 years of enrolment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community and health challenges, with ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team.
- Understanding of Aboriginal chronic disease and lifestyle-related health issues, and how cultural factors influence health care.
- Ability to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate health promotion and education initiatives; ability to use computer programs for planning, delivering, or documenting care (including patient records and data reporting).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to interact sensitively with Aboriginal people and use email for written communication.
