SURA Construction & Engineering has a new opportunity for a Senior Underwriter in a hybrid capacity to join our busy team in Sydney to underwrite construction & Engineering risks, quote, and bind accounts within a delegated authority through negotiating & converting submissions from brokers.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Customize and modify policies using endorsements and terms and conditions to best meet client and underwriting needs
  • Prepare new business and renewal premium and policy terms for review by senior staff and referral to Lloyds
  • Apply in-depth specialised knowledge, judgement and understanding to provide advice on Construction Insurance
  • Support the development, design and delivery of SURA Construction & Engineering products to Australian Insurance Brokers
  • Ensure compliance with binder conditions, code of conduct and insurance laws and regulations
  • Set priorities and monitor workflows within the C&E Underwriting team as required, providing guidance and training to relevant staff and assisting in the review of their work

Experience required to perform the role includes:

  • Extensive relevant experience in or in-depth specialised knowledge of Construction & Engineering underwriting
  • Proficient understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks
  • Advanced interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise/consult and maintain meaningful working relationships at all levels
  • Advanced analytical interpretation and problem-solving skills as well as advanced numeracy skills with the ability to understand and communicate financial information and monitor budgets. Demonstrated ability to develop internal and external relationships in order to meet and improve financial targets and monitor ongoing progress
  • Demonstrated ability to train and develop staff to deliver a high level of service, to coach and mentor a team, and influence staff that are not direct reports

Advanced organisational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, establish and respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
