Lived Experience Lead

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lived Experience Lead in our Nursing and Quality Directorate to work with the Experience of Care team.

You will ensure the voice of lived experience is at the heart of the way the Experience of Care portfolio is delivered. This includes ensuring that the experience of care and the voice of our patients, their families, carers, and volunteers are listened to, understood, and inform Continuous Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance.

You will be a welcome addition to the current Experience of Care team to facilitate our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), offering confidential advice, support, and information on mental health-related matters, processing complaints, and co-producing responses to ensure these reflect organizational learning and are accessible and understandable.

Main duties of the job

You will work as a peer alongside our Family Liaison Practitioner (FLP) to support families and their loved ones through investigations into patient safety issues or complaints within the Trust. This includes managing family interactions and liaising with investigating officers to ensure respectful and professional treatment.

This is a non-clinical post requiring lived experience of mental health, learning disability, dementia, or autism (personal or as a carer), supporting others to ensure their voices are heard.

Job responsibilities

Your role will include:

  • Embedding lived experience in feedback and quality improvement processes.
  • Ensuring patient, service user, and carer voices influence the Chief Nursing Officer's portfolio and Trust strategies.
  • Representing the Trust on local and national forums.
  • Leading and advising on internal and external working groups.
  • Championing patient, service user, and carer perspectives.
  • Supporting complaint review processes and establishing a learning forum.
Person SpecificationQualifications
  • Degree level education or equivalent experience.
  • Ongoing professional development in relevant areas.
  • Training in mental health, learning disabilities, or autism.
  • Quality Improvement qualification.
  • Accessible information training (e.g., easy read, Makaton).
Experience
  • Lived experience of mental health, learning disability, dementia, or autism (personal or as a carer).
  • Understanding of NHS care structures and terminology.
  • Experience co-designing projects with stakeholders.
  • Developing action plans and monitoring progress.
  • Effective communication across diverse audiences.
  • Designing surveys and collecting qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Leading health or social care strategy implementation.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement and research methods.
  • Leading meetings and setting agendas.
Skills
  • Influencing policy through lived experience and knowledge.
  • Building relationships and facilitating co-produced outcomes.
  • Organizational and analytical skills.
  • Reporting and statistical data interpretation.
  • Proficiency with word processing, databases, spreadsheets.
