This is an exciting opportunity for a senior journalist to join The Daily Aus and help shape the way young Australians understand the world. You'll be at the frontline of our newsroom – pitching and writing sharp, accurate, and engaging news stories across politics, current affairs and international news.

Reporting to TDA's senior editors, you'll bring strong editorial judgement and a deep understanding of what matters to our audience. You'll thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, where getting the facts right and making them accessible is the top priority.

What you'll do
  • Pitch, research, and write news stories across politics, current affairs, and international news
  • Work closely with senior editors to ensure stories meet TDA's editorial standards and voice
  • Monitor breaking news and contribute to live coverage when needed
  • Source and verify information, ensuring accuracy and impartiality in every story
  • Collaborate with other journalists to share knowledge and strengthen coverage across the newsroom
  • (Preferred) Present stories in short-form video and/or host podcasts as required
Who you are
  • A journalist with at least four years' professional newsroom experience
  • Skilled at breaking down complex topics into concise, clear, and engaging copy
  • Able to become an expert on a topic in only a few hours
  • Can bring a network of contacts and sources to reach out for comment on stories
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • A strong collaborator who values clear communication and feedback
  • Committed to producing journalism that is accessible, impartial, and fact-driven
  • (Preferred) Confident presenting on camera and/or behind a mic
