Small Caps Analyst – Global or Australian Market Expertise

We are seeking an exceptional Small Caps Analyst to join a high-performing investment team with a passion for uncovering value in the small-cap universe. This role offers a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise in equity research and financial analysis, focusing on small-cap companies either globally or within the Australian market. If you thrive on digging into the details, identifying untapped potential, and contributing to investment success, this could be the perfect role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough fundamental research and analysis of small-cap companies, assessing financial statements, competitive positioning, and growth drivers.
  • Develop, refine, and maintain sophisticated financial models to evaluate company valuations, cash flows, and investment risks.
  • Identify emerging trends, macroeconomic factors, and sector-specific developments that impact small-cap performance.
  • Produce high-quality research reports, investment theses, and presentations for portfolio managers, investment committees, and other key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with portfolio managers and analysts to support idea generation, due diligence, and portfolio construction.
  • Monitor existing holdings, providing timely updates on performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Contribute to the team's investment process by offering fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to small-cap investing.
  • Stay ahead of market movements by leveraging data, industry contacts, and proprietary insights to inform decision-making.

What We're Looking For:

  • Demonstrated experience in equity research, investment analysis, or a related field, with a focus on small-cap stocks (global or Australian market expertise highly regarded).
  • Advanced skills in financial modeling, valuation methodologies (e.g., DCF, multiples, peer comparisons), and quantitative analysis.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, corporate finance, and market dynamics affecting small-cap companies.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing detailed reports and presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • A proactive and curious mindset, with a genuine passion for discovering undervalued opportunities in the small-cap space.
  • A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related discipline (CFA, CPA, or postgraduate qualifications are highly desirable).
  • Proficiency with research tools and platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet, Capital IQ) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • For candidates with Australian market experience: familiarity with ASX-listed small caps and local regulatory frameworks is a plus.
  • For candidates with global experience: exposure to international small-cap markets and cross-border investment analysis is advantageous.

Why Join Us?

This role offers the chance to work with a team renowned for its intellectual rigor, collaborative culture, and commitment to delivering superior investment outcomes. You'll be empowered to take ownership of your research, influence investment decisions, and grow your career in a supportive environment that values creativity and critical thinking. We offer:

  • A competitive salary package with performance-based incentives.
  • Access to cutting-edge tools, data, and resources to enhance your research capabilities.
  • Opportunities for professional development, including support for further qualifications (e.g., CFA).
  • A flexible and inclusive workplace that fosters work-life balance and career progression.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of industries and investment strategies within the small-cap space.

Who You Are:

You're someone who loves the challenge of finding the next big opportunity before the market does. You're meticulous, resourceful, and thrive on turning raw data into compelling investment stories. Whether your expertise lies in Australian small caps or the global arena, you bring a blend of analytical horsepower and market intuition to the table.
