Overview

Staff Software Engineer – Mobile at Commonwealth Bank. You will contribute to all aspects of the technology products and services we deliver, from technical strategy and design to coding, deployment, and operation. Our Home Buying products on the App guide Australians through the home loan application process with real-time assessment and confidence to secure their dream home. Our mobile team is the largest in the country and is responsible for building Australia's number one banking App, used by over five million people every day.

We believe in learning together, sharing knowledge, and supporting each other. You'll work closely with Product Owners, native iOS and Android engineers, and UX Designers to bring new features to life, keep systems running smoothly, mentor junior team members, share your ideas, and see them executed.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, native iOS and Android engineers, and UX Designers to build and maintain features for the mobile banking app.
  • Contribute to technical strategy and design, coding, deployment, and operation of mobile services.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote a culture of open communication and collaboration.
  • Participate in problem solving, exploring new solutions, and delivering polished user experiences.
What We're Interested In Hearing From You
  • Have solid experience working with iOS or Android technologies
  • Have a strong product mindset and know how to use AI tools effectively in their work
  • Experienced in working collaboratively with team members and cross-functional squads
  • Possess strong communication skills, raising concerns or ideas promptly
  • Are willing to take ownership of tasks, collaborate proactively, and mentor junior team members
  • Value teamwork and promote a culture of continuous learning
  • Are able to handle different opinions and work towards feasible solutions
  • Are open to new challenges, technologies, and tools
Technical Skills
  • Develop robust and secure mobile applications using modern frameworks (e.g., SwiftUI or Jetpack Compose)
  • Proficient in platform-specific tools such as Xcode or Android Studio, with a strong grasp of current mobile development practices
  • Implement comprehensive testing strategies including unit testing, UI testing, and end-to-end automation
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, TeamCity, or similar
  • Demonstrate strong design sensibility and ability to deliver polished user experiences from concept to release
  • Open to leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cline, or Cursor to enhance productivity
