The Principal Policy Officer will develop and provide policy advice, lead policy projects, and utilise data and performance information to achieve the Courts and Tribunal's objectives in relation to the Courts Innovation Program.

Key responsibilities may include support for the development and delivery of priority projects relating to responses for aggrieved and respondent parties in domestic and family violence matters, or defendants in criminal proceedings generally.

Your Key Responsibilities
  1. Identify, research, and analyse complex policy issues, interpret, and draw conclusions from relevant quantitative and qualitative data, and work with operational teams to develop options and evidence-based solutions.
  2. Provide high-level policy advice on relevant program materials, legislation, strategies, and policy documents.
  3. Develop and deliver complex policy projects.
  4. Coordinate and prepare submissions, discussion papers, briefs, reports, departmental and ministerial correspondence, and answers to Parliamentary Questions on Notice.
  5. Inform best practice justice policy and program development, focusing on responding to the individual needs of persons including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and enhancing the accessibility of programs and associated court processes.
  6. Liaise and consult with government agencies, non-government organisations, and community groups on policy development and implementation.
  7. Participate in inter-departmental and inter-governmental meetings as a representative for the Courts Innovation Program, Courts and Tribunals, or the Department of Justice.
  8. Support, contribute to, and cultivate cultural capability within the operations of programs established under Courts Innovation Program to assist people coming into contact with the justice system.
  9. Undertake other tasks as directed by the Managers or Director within the relevant Courts Innovation Program business unit.
