Exciting opportunity to join Forensic Intervention Services as a Forensic Intern Clinician, on a 14-Month Fixed Term basis.
What does Forensic Intervention Services do?
As a division of Corrections Victoria, Forensic Intervention Services is a specialist program area that provides people in custody and on community-based dispositions with offence specific services including: screening, assessment, and intervention to support their rehabilitation. In doing so, Forensic Intervention Services is a critical component of the department's strategy to reduce reoffending and contribute to community safety.
Role Description
Under supervision, the Forensic Intern Clinician is responsible for providing a limited range of specialist clinical services state-wide, including screenings, assessments, and group-based interventions to people who have perpetrated sexual and/or violent offences, or whose offences are strongly connected with substance misuse.
- Learning to undertake offence specific risk assessment, including developing the skills required for clinical interview, and determine appropriate treatment pathways for those eligible for our service.
- Facilitate/co-facilitate group-based offence specific intervention programs and complete comprehensive clinical case notes in a timely fashion.
- Learning to author comprehensive risk assessments and assisting in the development of treatment completion reports and treatment plans for internal and external stakeholders.
- Engaging in extensive supervision.
- Travelling across the state to prison locations where service is required.
Success Criteria
To be successful in the Forensic Intern Clinician role, you will have:

- Demonstrated an openness to learning and a willingness to ask questions to support your own learning and development.
Required Skills
- A basic knowledge of, and commitment to, the use of the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) model of therapeutic intervention.
- A basic understanding of, and commitment to, the application of best practice principles of evidence-based frameworks relevant to offender rehabilitation, including the Risk Needs Responsivity model, and Strengths Based Approaches.
- An understanding of, and commitment to, engagement in reflective practice and clinical supervision.
Qualifications
- Registration as a Provisional Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency; or Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW); or A master's degree in psychotherapy and eligibility for registration with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA); or A master's degree in counselling and eligibility for membership with Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA); or Credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses; or Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
- A current Victorian driver's licence is required.
