Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals within the Department of Supportive and Palliative Care.

The Successful applicant will have a strong work ethic, highly developed clinical, interpersonal and communication skills, committed to teamwork, education and research.

We are looking for a likeminded clinician who shares the passion and commitment of our team to delivering exceptional supportive and palliative care to a highly diverse community.

The WSLHD Supportive and Palliative Care (SPC) Service is a group of specialist health professionals who are skilled, compassionate, hardworking, and committed. We are specialist physicians, specialist nurses, ward and community nurses, allied health professionals and Aboriginal and Cultural Health Workers. These health professionals are joined by Pastoral Care colleagues and a vibrant and diverse Supportive and Palliative Care Volunteer Service to make up this highly functional Multidisciplinary Supportive and Palliative Care Team.

The SPC service cares for people and their families/carers with life limiting illnesses who have complex symptomatology and/or End of Life care and bereavement support needs. The clinicians in the SPC service work with our colleagues in Specialist, General and Primary Health Care as well as the staff of Residential Aged Care Faculties to support them and their patients, and to improve their capacity to deliver timely and quality Supportive, Palliative and End of Care for all people in WSLHD living with life limiting illness.

The SPC service team also engages in pre and post graduate teaching and research in this field. The successful applicant will also be engaged in delivering such education and have the opportunity to contribute to innovative quality control and assurance activities, as well as qualitative and quantitative research and service innovation in all aspects of Supportive and Palliative Care.

In an exciting dual appointment opportunity this position will also have the opportunity to work at 0.2 FTE in Renal Supportive Care. The WSLHD Renal Supportive Care Multidisciplinary team is part of the Western Sydney Renal Service, and works closely with the WSLHD Supportive and Palliative Care Service.

The successful appointee will hold both the FRACP and the FAChPM and be required to work at 0.2 FTE within a dynamic team providing care and support to patients and families dealing with the challenge of End Stage Renal Failure. This population will predominantly be those patients for whom renal replacement therapy is either not appropriate, not desired, or soon to be withdrawn.

The appointee will work as part of the multidisciplinary Renal Supportive Care Team in consultation with WSLHD nephrologists and other clinicians from the Western Sydney Renal Service. They will provide consultations in Renal Supportive Care Clinics and for inpatients when needed. The care provided by the Renal Supportive Care Physician will include working towards the relief of patient symptoms from ESRF and associated problems and eventually ensuring there is provision of high-quality End of Life care for this population and their families.

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within six months, may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
