Overview

Senior Project Officer Feral Cat Control & Research role with the National Parks and Wildlife Service, reporting to contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage. The role leads delivery of targeted feral cat control programs, represents NPWS on the National Feral Cat Taskforce, and oversees a multidisciplinary team including operational staff, researchers and contractors.

This position requires project planning and evaluation, supervision of staff, and ensuring programs are delivered on time, within budget and to high standards. The role includes coordinating ground shooting operations, researching innovative control methods (such as aerial baiting), securing permits and approvals, engaging with stakeholders and communities, chairing the Project Control Group, and maintaining rigorous data management and reporting systems.

This is a unique opportunity to combine project leadership, research coordination, and on-ground conservation delivery to improve biodiversity outcomes in NSW.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate ground shooting operations for feral cat control.
  • Lead research into innovative control methods, including aerial baiting.
  • Secure permits and approvals required for program delivery.
  • Engage with stakeholders and communities to support program goals.
  • Chair the Project Control Group and coordinate multidisciplinary teams (operational staff, researchers, contractors).
  • Drive project planning and evaluation to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery and high-quality results.
  • Ensure rigorous data management and reporting systems are in place.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to staff and contractors.
Essential Requirements
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience.
  • Project management skills with understanding of procurement, tendering and contract preparation; experience managing project teams, consultants and contractors; and applying environmental safety and risk management policies and systems.
  • Experience developing, implementing and reviewing strategic plans, policies and programs; providing strategic and operational advice to senior management.

You are confident, organized, hands-on, autonomous, and able to balance strategy with action, planning, problem-solving, engaging stakeholders and inspiring your team to achieve meaningful conservation outcomes.
