Trade Assistant

Contribute your experience and skills to our team We're currently seeking a driven individual that has a basic to intermediate understanding of mechanical knowledge to join our team as a Trade Assistant. This role provides support to our mechanical tradespeople and wider workshop based team to ensure our high standards in maintaining and upkeeping our fleet are consistently met. Come on board with Busways at our Ryde Depot.

What We Offer

• Earning Potential: Up to $85,000+ including reasonable overtime loading and generous allowances
• Base rate of $31.21 - $35.81 per hour, depending on skills and experience
• Attendance Allowance: $15.08 payable on rostered worked hours
• Annual Leave: loading of 17.5% - 20% (dependent on consecutive shift type and pattern)
• Up to 5 weeks annual leave (dependent on consecutive shift type and pattern)
• 15 days sick leave accrued annually
• Eligible for long service leave after 7 years
• Ongoing Training and Development: opportunity to undertake additional training and certifications to support and advance your skills
• Exposure to Advanced Technologies: Assist with a range of vehicles, including Euro 5 & 6 technologies
• Licence Upgrade Opportunities: Upgrade from a car licence to MR licence, with costs covered by the company

Role Responsibilities

This role requires a mature and professional approach with excellent communication skills. Your main duties will include:

• Performing minor repairs and service of vehicles and equipment, in a timely manner, within your skill level and experience under the supervision of a qualified tradesperson
• Moving buses within the yard, parking and refuelling them
• Pick-up and delivery of parts and other objects as required by the Workshop Supervisor or Leading Hand
• General yard/workshop cleaning and maintenance
• Store duties as and when required by the supervisor
• Performing other general, non-trades services as directed
• Adhering to all Work, Health & Safety requirements whilst performing work duties
• Maintaining clean workshop practices
• Maintaining and performing all workshop practices in a manner that adheres to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations
  
  

Our workshop staff play a critical role within the business to ensure our ever-evolving fleet of vehicles are continually maintained to the highest standard to keep our staff and passengers safe out on the road.

You can expect to be provided with all necessary training, this will include relevant information about our various makes and models of vehicles to ensure a thorough understanding of standards required to meet contract obligations.

The Successful Applicant Will

• A willingness to work a variety of shifts
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience in working in a team environment on daily maintenance and repair schedules
• Confidence in using computers and software packages
• Be proactive with a drive to finding better ways to continuously improve and be adaptable in a dynamic and growing team
• We are looking for real, not perfect individuals that are passionate and invested in achieving outcomes
• Be physically fit to carry out the necessities of the role which includes heavy lifting
• Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have unrestricted working rights in Australia
• Hold a current Unrestricted Australian drivers licence issued by the relevant State
  
  

Highly Regarded

• Experience in a similar role and environment is preferred, however, not necessary as we are willing to train and develop the right individuals for the position.
• Medium Rigid (MR) or higher licence class
