About the opportunity

Are you interested in working in a new state-of-the-art facility with one of the largest public Anatomical Pathology laboratories in the state? The Department of Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology at RPA is seeking a Senior Molecular Scientist.

As the statewide diagnostic service for bone and soft tissue sarcomas, pelvic exenteration, complex head and neck resections, liver and kidney transplants, and diagnostic molecular pathology, you will be exposed to a diverse range of tissue types. The successful applicant will join a team of scientists and technicians, working with administrative and medical staff to ensure high-quality pathology results for patients and clinicians.

Located at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Campus in Camperdown, Sydney, our laboratory is conveniently accessible by train and bus, with nearby cafes and entertainment options.

What you'll be doing

Managing scientific, technical, and support staff, overseeing testing activities, and ensuring operational integrity, regulatory compliance, and accreditation of laboratory services. Responsibilities also include human resources, business, and resource management.

  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification relevant to pathology.
  • Customer-focused with strong interpersonal and communication skills, including report writing, statistical evaluation, and policy communication.
  • Understanding of accreditation frameworks, standards, and quality systems.
  • Managerial experience in laboratory operations, administration, and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems and Quality Management Systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of laboratory operations and equipment maintenance.
  • Understanding of legislation, policies, and safety requirements impacting the laboratory.
  • Clinical molecular experience related to solid tumour testing.
