Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist the Room leader in formulating and implementing a stimulating programme of activities suitable for the children's age group, in collaboration with other staff and the manager. This includes planning for developmental and learning milestones.
  2. Work with management and staff to ensure the nursery's philosophy is upheld.
  3. Provide a high-quality environment that meets the diverse needs of children from various cultural and religious backgrounds and at different stages of development.
  4. Maintain the nursery's high standards at all times, recognizing its high profile.
  5. Follow nursery policies and procedures, including operational and staff policies.
  6. Identify and support the needs of all children, including those with special needs, providing appropriate physical, emotional, and intellectual guidance. Support new children settling into the nursery.
  7. Communicate and collaborate with parents and support other family members as appropriate.
  8. Develop and maintain effective communication with parents/carers to support daily care needs.
  9. Assist in preparing and maintaining records for children in your group and conduct reviews with parents alongside managers.
  10. Respect confidentiality of all received information.
  11. Ensure a safe, secure, and hygienic environment, maintaining a happy and caring atmosphere, and comply with relevant Health and Safety standards.
  12. Work positively within the team, supporting colleagues and promoting a cohesive staff environment.
  13. Manage other staff effectively to ensure smooth operation of the room where appropriate.
  14. Develop your role within the team.
  15. Participate in training programmes for students, placements, and volunteers, providing guidance and support.
  16. Contribute to the overall nursery environment by identifying where your assistance is most needed, maintaining awareness of children's needs.
  17. Be flexible with nursery working practices, assisting with domestic tasks like snack preparation and equipment cleaning, and perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
  18. Attend out-of-hours activities such as training, staff meetings, and special events like summer barbecues and Christmas services when required.
  19. Stay informed about current issues and developments in early years practice by attending relevant training and liaising with professional bodies.
  20. Keep accurate records, such as accident reports, ensuring they are initialed by the manager before being shared with parents.
  21. Ensure children are collected by known individuals.
