The Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) is responsible for the coordination of patient services, unit management and staff management within the Perioperative Service consistent with the strategic directions of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD).

As the leader of the unit, the NUM will demonstrate their capability through attitude, skills, behaviour and attributes, namely: broad nursing experience and knowledge; understanding and acceptance that patients are the central focus of service delivery; professional integrity; ethical conduct; accountability; advocacy; enabling others; cultivation of collaborative relationships and effective team work; commitment to advancing the profession of nursing and care provision.

The NUM takes overall responsibility for the health care environment and standard of patient care. As the registered nurse in charge of the unit, the NUM performs as a clinical leader and manager with accountability for culture, quality and safety, patient flow, financial management, change management and the experience of patients in that unit.

Wollongong Hospital, located on Dharawal Country, is the Illawarra Shoalhaven's major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
