  • Providing early intervention, statutory Youth Justice, and detention services to ensure that young people are held accountable for their offending behaviour. We help support them to become responsible members of the community.
  • Providing trauma-informed support and resources to victims to ensure they can recover and heal, whilst ensuring the voices and experiences of victims are heard and respected.

This role is responsible for the collection, evaluation, analysis and dissemination of intelligence information to appropriate internal and external stakeholders. The role is instrumental in proactively identifying and reporting strategic, and operational intelligence related concerns to assist decision making and minimise potential risks to Youth Detention Centres and the community.

Key Responsibilities

As Senior Intelligence Officer, you will specifically:

Gather, Analyse And Report Intelligence And Provide Strategic Advice
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to support the safe management of young people in a way that also maximises their access to therapeutic and rehabilitative programs and services.
  • Liaise directly with young people, youth detention staff and other stakeholders to gather intelligence.
  • Ensure advice assesses the threat and credibility of information to ensure that risk mitigation strategies are appropriate and commensurate to the level of risk that exists.
  • Prepare comprehensive intelligence information to support meetings and collaborative discussions about young person management and/or operational matters.
  • Lead and contribute to the development and implementation of incident prevention strategies.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of oversight systems relevant to youth detention and knowledge of mandatory reporting requirements and referrals processes to the department's Ethical Standards Unit, Queensland Police Service, Crime and Corruption Commission, Office of the Public Guardian, Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services and the Queensland Ombudsman.

Partner With, Support And Develop Others
  • Build the capacity of youth detention staff (operational and professional) to proactively identify intelligence and risks.
  • Develop partnerships with external agencies for the purpose of sharing intelligence to minimise risks to youth detention centres and the community.
  • Maintain high level knowledge of contemporary intelligence practices and work with Youth Justice stakeholders to embed these practices into youth detention operations and processes as appropriate.
  • Ensure that cultural competence, cultural respect and cultural safety is embedded throughout all aspects of the role.
  • Self-manage work and priorities to meet required timeframes. Support, mentor and provide supervision to the Intelligence Officer. Delegate activities as appropriate and in liaison with the Deputy Director and/or Operations Manager.

Record Management And Systems Development
  • Develop systems to gather and analyse intelligence and provide high level strategic and operational advice to youth detention management. Prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations addressing potential risks to youth detention centres and the community. Provide verbal briefings, presentations and training to a range of stakeholders as required.
  • Manage the security and confidentiality of all records and information. Download, extract and analyse CCTV footage as appropriate. Conduct intelligence activities and tasks with sensitivity and discretion.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporary intelligence records on the department's IT systems.
  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
