About This Job

Position Information

Old Bonalbo Public School currently has an enrolment of 13 students, 6 of whom identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. The school is situated on the lands of the Bundjalung nation. Students come from various backgrounds, some living within the village and others in rural locations around Old Bonalbo. The school is located 11 kilometres from the local village of Bonalbo, 80km Northwest of Casino and 175km South of Brisbane. Established in 1920, the school remains an important part of the local community and enjoys strong support in the district.

Old Bonalbo Public School has a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy. Our school values of Be a Learner, Be Respectful, Be Safe ensure positive student well-being and educational outcomes.

The P&C is supportive, and 2024 highlighted the restart of our garden program, where students invite locals to come and try our food prepared from the garden, bringing the community into the school. The school has a diverse and extensive range of up-to-date resources, with students all having access to a laptop.

• High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
• Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
• High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
• Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
• Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
• Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
  
  

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.

• Within the dual role of the teaching principal and high-performing classroom teacher, demonstrate a proven ability to lead the implementation of curriculum to improve outcomes for all students.
• Demonstrated strength in leading targeted professional learning and evidence-based practices to implement quality HPGE, differentiated learning and explicit teaching to ensure equity for all students and staff professional learning.
• Well-developed skills and ability to foster and enhance a positive whole-school student behaviour management strategy that leads to all students understanding their responsibilities, resulting in a safe and happy learning environment.
• An open, approachable and collaborative leader with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, who empowers staff and builds positive, authentic relationships with all members of a diverse rural school community.
  
  

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2017 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP1 for 2025.
