Tax Accountant for Growing International Business Expanding in Australia
An international company rapidly expanding its presence in Australia through a series of significant upcoming acquisitions is seeking a skilled Tax Accountant to join their team. Having already acquired 42 businesses, the company has ambitious plans for further growth.
In this role, you will take ownership of Australian tax compliance reporting, working closely with the Head of Tax based in the UK. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing GST returns, corporate income tax returns, and ensuring full compliance with Australian tax regulations.
This position is ideal for candidates with in-depth knowledge of the Australian tax law, particularly focusing on income tax and GST. You won't simply review work-you will be hands-on, able to work independently, and ready to dive into both transactional tasks and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit monthly GST Business Activity Statements (BAS) accurately and on time, including GST calculations, lodgement, and reconciliation with accounting records.
- Assist with the preparation of corporate Income Tax Returns by analysing tax-sensitive items within financial statements.
- Support tax liability calculations and disclosures for accounting purposes, ensuring reconciliations between tax liabilities and accounting records.
- Manage tax compliance deadlines and ensure all tax-related filings are submitted promptly.
- Identify potential tax risks, recommend solutions, and drive improvements in tax compliance processes and reporting efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Head of Tax on broader compliance and risk matters, including ACA calculations related to acquisitions and establishing effective tax processes.
- Support transfer pricing and country-by-country reporting requirements.
- Provide ad hoc tax advice to the business as needed.
- Assist with reviewing Tax Due Diligence Reports connected to business acquisitions.
- Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), auditors, and other external parties as necessary.
- Work closely with the wider finance team on tax-related issues and initiatives.
About you:
- CA/CPA qualified essential
- Strong knowledge of Australian tax law - GST & income tax in particular
- Advanced Excel skills & competent dealing with large datasets.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
- Previous experience working in an in-house tax role will be beneficial
