Senior Engineering Manager - Mobile - CommSec

Overview

You will lead a team of engineers as the Senior Engineering Manager – Mobile Chapter Lead within CommSec, Australia's largest online retail stockbroker. You'll drive technical excellence, influence architecture and AI strategies, and deliver scalable investment solutions. This is a hands-on leadership role spanning development and operations and offers the opportunity to shape CommSec's engineering transformation while collaborating across the broader CBA network.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing, psychologically safe engineering team with a culture of excellence.
  • Mentor engineers and uplift engineering practices across CommBank.
  • Champion consistent, best-practice engineering standards and ways of working.
  • Foster open communication and inclusivity to drive impactful outcomes.
  • Support mission-critical operations and navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Advocate for innovation, new technologies, and effective architectural integration.
  • Drive technical excellence, influence architecture and AI strategies, and deliver scalable investment solutions.
Tech Skills

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. Experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will help you succeed:

  • Proven experience across the full software engineering lifecycle and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong architecture skills in web and mobile platforms.
  • Expertise in Android (Kotlin/Java) or iOS (Swift).
  • Knowledge of React (ReactJS, NextJS, Redux) or Angular.
  • Exposure to Microsoft .NET stack (C#, .NET Core, Web API) is a plus.
  • Experience designing scalable microservices.
  • Database knowledge.
  • DevOps practices with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, TeamCity).
  • Awareness of AI/ML concepts and GenAI tools.
  • Understanding of security engineering and cloud-native development (AWS preferred).
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps & SRE practices.
  • Commitment to quality through automated testing, peer reviews, and observability.
