The Opportunity

Wollongong City Council is dedicated to providing high-quality swim instruction to children and adults of all ages and skill levels. Join our team and make a positive impact within the community by teaching a lifelong skill.

Bring your training, knowledge and experience along with your excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to help others learn and improve their swimming abilities. You'll promote water safety and foster a love for swimming in a fun and supportive environment.

This is a Casual position located at Beaton Park Leisure Centre. Casual Shift working hours can start from 8:30am to 12:00pm and afternoon shifts from 3:30pm-7:00pm (7 days a week). We are looking for casual staff who are flexible with their working hours who can be called upon at short notice.

Salary $44.01 per hour inclusive of 25% casual loading plus superannuation. Applicants should be suitably fit to undertake the duties as outlined in the job description.

Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check.

How you'll make a difference

As a qualified, enthusiastic and customer focused swim instructor, you are dedicated to helping children and adults of all ages develop proper swimming techniques and skills in a fun and supportive environment.

At Beaton Park Leisure Centre swim lessons run 7 days a week, mornings and afternoons. Our indoor 25m heated pool provides the perfect setting for our Learn to Swim classes and will see you:

  • conduct swim lessons for children and adults, helping them develop proper swimming techniques and skills
  • evaluate each student's performance during swim sessions and provide constructive feedback
  • complete attendance, progress, and accident reports accurately
  • ensure all swimming aids and equipment are in good working order
  • maintain a safe and clean pool area

About you

As a swim instructor, you bring patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to inspire students to reach their swimming goals.

What you need:

  • Current Austswim Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Certificate or equivalent
  • Current HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification
  • Paid NSW Working With Children Check Number
