Queensland Fire and Emergency Services is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through prevention, preparation, response and recovery activities across a range of emergency situations. QFES comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

Mandatory Requirements

• Australian Permanent Resident Status
• Live or work within a reasonable distance of auxiliary fire station
• Manual C Class driver's licence
• Employer's written consent to attend incidents and emergencies (where applicable)

Your Commitment

• Attend incident and emergency calls – 50% of calls as a day worker with routine hours, or 30% of calls as a shift worker or with non-routine hours
• Attend 75% of regular drill and training sessions
• Obtain an MRV licence, at your own expense, within 12 months of employment
• Participate in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs, including first aid/emergency care
• Comply with QFES policies and procedures including code of conduct, safety and personal presentation standards

Your Key Accountabilities

• Respond as a member of a team to fire and other emergency incidents (note: auxiliary firefighters who have not satisfactorily completed all pre-operational aspects of ARTEP may attend all activities in relation to their designated station, except emergency incidents).
• Promote community safety and emergency preparedness through community education activities.
• Develop and maintain competencies through drills and training to ensure safety and effectiveness on the fire ground.
• Maintain attendance standards for emergency incidents and training.
• Operate specialist firefighting and rescue equipment safely and effectively.
• Contribute to upkeep and hygiene of station facilities; maintain and repair operational equipment.
• Contribute to incident reporting and general station administration as required.
• Promote a positive team approach and comply with legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
• Communicate effectively with QFES personnel, other emergency service providers and the community.
• Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to health principles and procedures.
