Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Canberra and headspace Tuggeranong. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT.

About The Position

We are looking for a Youth Counsellor who will work in collaboration with The Salvation Army youth homelessness services within the ACT.

This role will be based at headspace Tuggeranong, with the majority of the role being completed as outreach within The Salvation Army services. This role will work collaboratively with young people experiencing homelessness and working closely with the young persons case manager and other services as required.

The Youth Counsellor will assess the mental health and psycho-social support needs of the young people provide supportive counselling and psychological education, and assist with referral into headspace and coordinate transition to appropriate support and treatment streams within and external to headspace in accordance with the clinical need. The position will work closely with the other members of the headspace Canberra and Tuggeranong teams as well as The Salvation Army and external service providers to coordinate support needs.

This position is available part-time (22.5 hours per week), fixed term until 30 June 2026 with the possibility for extension.

We Are Looking For Someone With

• Qualifications in Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Psychology, or other relevant field as well as eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional organisation/authority as required.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment, providing counselling in response to the needs of young people.
• Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment and screening of clients and their carers to determine client care needs and assist clients to access necessary services.
