We are seeking to establish a pool of Science Teachers for fixed term, full-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Christmas Island District High School (DHS) is located 360 km southwest of Java and 2600 km northwest of Perth. We cater for approximately 300 students from Pre-primary to Year 12 on our main site and more than 20 Kindergarten students at the Tom Patterson Kindergarten Centre. Our school is well resourced which means class sizes are kept small and extra support is provided to classes in the areas of literacy, numeracy, information and communications technology, and pastoral care. Our commitment to valuing the home languages of the island means that students are offered the opportunity to learn either Mandarin or Bahasa Malay languages.

The Role

Suitable applicants should have experience and knowledge in teaching lower secondary Science as well as General and ATAR Marine and Maritime Studies with senior school students. Experience in teaching students with additional needs and English as an Additional Language/Dialect is highly desirable.

Suitable applicants will ideally exhibit a strong understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum. You should also possess the ability to plan for school improvement using and responding to all data sources, ensuring curriculum and pedagogical development is current and ongoing. Suitable applicants who are flexible, adaptive, and able to apply the strategies of differentiated instruction and explicit teaching are encouraged to apply.
