About us

The Western Australian Museum is a vibrant centre of inspiration, learning and enjoyment for everyone. It preserves, documents and shares collections relating to the State's natural and cultural heritage. It collaborates with people across Western Australia to share the stories and voices of diverse communities. It works alongside national and international organisations, contributing to global research, promoting life-long learning, and developing and hosting world-class exhibitions.

About the role

This role is part of a fully funded project focused on the evolution, taxonomy, and systematics of ground beetles (Carabidae), with emphasis on the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The successful applicant will collaborate with colleagues to generate molecular datasets, develop specimen processing and analytical pipelines combining morphology and genomics, explore evolutionary questions from a macroevolutionary perspective, and publish results in peer-reviewed publications. The position will work closely with a PhD student, helping train them in molecular methodology, phylogenetics and associated analyses.

Experience in beetle systematics, though beneficial, is not necessary.
