Assistant Protocol Officer

About the Role
As an Assistant Protocol Officer at Government House Sydney, you will play an important role in coordinating and supporting the Vice Regal program. This includes visits to community and patronage organisations, focus regions across Greater Sydney, and ceremonial or diplomatic calls on the Governor.

You'll liaise directly with community groups and patronage organisations to plan and deliver Vice Regal events and functions at Government House, managing all aspects from invitations and RSVPs to event-day coordination. You will also prepare detailed research and briefing materials to ensure the Governor and their spouse are well-informed ahead of each engagement.

At times, you will accompany the Governor and/or their spouse to engagements, acting as the on-site liaison, providing protocol advice, and managing logistics such as timing and transport to ensure every engagement runs smoothly and to a high standard.

This is a rewarding and varied role offering the opportunity to contribute to meaningful community and ceremonial engagements. Some travel, as well as occasional evening and weekend work, will be required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of contemporary Australian protocols and their application
  • Experience coordinating events or visits involving high-level stakeholders or dignitaries
  • Strong administrative and planning skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefs and liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Discretion, judgement, and professionalism, especially when handling confidential or sensitive matters
