CLASP Central Leith Afterschool Provision ) is an out-of-school childcare service which has run for over 2 decades and is based in Leith Primary School. We are a charitable non-profit making organisation whose mission is to provide affordable, high quality after school and holiday club care for primary school-age children. We are a child-led play setting, where children's choice is at the heart of ALL decisions implemented. We provide and facilitate play opportunities in a stimulating environment based on the children's ideas, needs and preferences. Headed by a voluntary Management Committee, the day-to-day running is carried out by the management team made up of Project Manager, Deputy Managers, Play Workers and Playworker assistants. You will report to the Project Manager and be supported by the management team.
Role and duties- We are required to recruit a Part-Time Play Worker (Monday 2-6, Tuesday 2-6, Wednesday 2-6, Thursday 1:30-6, Friday 11:30-6). Some flexibility to days and hours may be available. We cannot offer hours before and/or after these times but may be able to offer fewer days to suit the correct candidate.
- Part-time or permanent positions with hours around 23 hours per week; rates: £12.21 per hour (unqualified as an Assistant Playworker) and £12.72 per hour (qualified as a Playworker).
- Some roles involve working across school holidays with clubs and varied shifts, including trips and activities in line with play work principles.
- You will supervise and interact with the children, ensuring their health and wellbeing is promoted at all times in line with GIRFEC (SHANNARI). You will work as part of a supportive team and use initiative and creativity to plan activities, set up play spaces, provide and facilitate play and attend relevant training.
- Cleaning and maintaining the setup of rooms, toys, equipment, play spaces and storage is part of the job with adherence to health and safety procedures.
- The successful applicant will be required to have a PVG and be SSSC registered. Experience of working with children is essential; a qualification in Playwork (e.g., SVQ 3) is desirable. Applicants not yet holding the qualification should be willing to work towards SVQ 3, with CLASP supporting training.
- We are seeking individuals with genuine interest in working in early years, with the ability to work as part of a team to plan activities for children aged between 3 months and 5 years.
- Salary (23 hrs/week): £12.21 for unqualified as Assistant Playworker; £12.72 for qualified Playworker.
- Note: Training and mentoring will be provided; hours may vary during school holidays. This is a part-time, permanent role with potential flexibility.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues to ensure a collaborative approach to childcare.
- Plan and lead creative, active, and educational activities that children enjoy.
- Assist with setting up play spaces and supporting outdoor and indoor activities in line with playwork principles.
- Work with a team to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of children at all times.
- Experience of working with children is essential; qualification in Playwork (SVQ 3) is desirable. Willingness to work towards SVQ 3 with CLASP support.
- PVG scheme check and SSSC registration are required.
- SCQF Level 6 (SVQ Level 2) in Playwork, Social Services (Children & Young People) or another relevant field is preferred in some roles.
Location: Leith area, in Edinburgh. This role is part-time and permanent with flexible hours as outlined above. The position involves working with children 3 months to 5 years and within an afterschool/holiday provision setting.
