The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) is seeking a Media and Social Media Advisor to help shape our social media strategy, design engaging and high quality content and deliver engaging campaigns that elevate physiotherapy's role in Australia's healthcare system.

About the role

As the Media and Social Media Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in planning and delivering high-quality communications across multiple channels, including social media, websites, events and traditional media. Guided by our organisational strategies, you will engage with members, consumers and journalists to promote the value of physiotherapy and allied health. Reporting to the Media and Public Relations Manager, you will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to execute and operationalise our media and public relations strategy, alongside spearheading our social media outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Lead social media efforts: Oversee procedures, governance, platform optimisation, content creation (adhering to brand guidelines), community management, outreach, and influencer engagement.
• Campaign management: Drive organic and front-end paid social media campaigns targeting both members and consumers.
• Social media strategy development: Assist in crafting a robust social media strategy in collaboration with the media and public relations manager.
• Stay ahead of trends: Keep up-to-date with the latest social media trends, implementing new approaches and conducting daily environmental scans of social media channels relevant to physiotherapy and allied health.
• Tailored social media plans: Prepare and execute customised social media plans to support advocacy priorities, various departments, and committees across multiple platforms and audiences.
• Content design/creation: Work with stakeholders to develop and design content for APA corporate channels according to style guide, project requirements and trending content formats.
• Event promotion: Plan and deliver social media content for APA conferences and other significant organisational events.
• Media engagement: Develop and distribute proactive and reactive pitches to journalists and media releases to leverage news and events related to physiotherapy.
• Innovate and improve: Contribute to ongoing innovation and continuous improvement in our communication strategies.
• Supporting our Reconciliation Action Plan and diversity commitments: Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure the amplification of our First Nations and LGBTQIA+ physiotherapists, and actively work to help close the healthcare gap through cultural awareness and competency in your day-to-day work.
• Stakeholder relationships: Establish and maintain strong working relationships across the organisation to meet social media needs effectively.
• Reporting: Prepare monthly reports on social media activity.
• Media inbox management: Oversee the media inbox, ensuring timely and effective responses to journalists, members and other stakeholders.

About you

• Education: Tertiary qualification in graphic design, communications, journalism/public relations, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years' demonstrated experience in social media management and optimisation.
• Proficiency: Proven expertise in designing content, managing social media platforms and developing/executing social media plans.
• Exceptional writing skills and critical attention to detail.
• Sector experience: Experience in the not-for-profit/government sector is highly regarded.
