About us

Sequins (www.sequins.bio) is an innovative Australian life sciences start up revolutionizing genomic sequencing with synthetic spike-in DNA and RNA controls. Born out of cutting-edge research at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, our technology fuses advanced bio-informatics software with powerful molecular tools to dramatically enhance sequencing accuracy.

Overview

We are looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to play a key role in developing a brand-new bio-informatics web platform. As a founding member of the engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to shape the product from the ground up—designing user-friendly interfaces, optimizing performance, and collaborating closely with scientists and software engineers to build seamless, data-driven applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop modern, scalable web applications with a strong focus on UI/UX.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate APIs and manage data visualization.
  • Implement responsive and accessible designs for a global user base.
  • Optimize frontend performance and ensure best practices in code quality.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and product brainstorming.

Location: Sydney or Brisbane

Requirements Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in frontend development, with a strong grasp of performance optimization and UI/UX principles.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, or Vue.
  • Strong understanding of CSS, HTML, and modern frontend architecture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of system architecture, databases and API design.
  • Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
