Our platform combines bureau data with open-banking transactions to deliver transparent risk insights and loan-limit recommendations, supporting growth and financial inclusion.

Role summary

You will work in a cross-functional squad of data scientists, engineers, and product managers to create high-performing data products that deliver measurable financial outcomes for our B2B lending clients. This is not a back-office analytics role — you will design, build, and deploy models that directly influence client P&L. You will run proofs of concept, validate commercial impact, and work closely with clients and internal teams to ensure our solutions drive adoption, revenue, and performance improvements.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and enhance Carrington Labs' predictive models for credit risk, loan limit recommendations, and other lending solutions, with a focus on measurable business impact.
• Collaborate with data engineers, product engineers, and product managers to turn modelling capabilities into integrated, market-ready products.
• Conduct proofs of concept with clients to demonstrate uplift, validate value, and refine models based on real-world lending performance.
• Translate analytical outputs into commercial insights that support product positioning, sales conversations, and client decision-making.
• Partner with product managers to prioritise modelling efforts based on potential revenue lift, risk reduction, and client demand.
• Implement robust model monitoring to track performance against KPIs such as approval rate lift, default rate reduction, and margin improvement.
• Work with engineering teams to ensure data quality, scalability, and low-latency deployment of models via APIs and real-time inference.
• Stay across lending market trends, regulatory changes, and new modelling techniques to keep our solutions ahead of the curve.
  

Requirements

• Masters, PhD, or equivalent in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or similar technical field.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with proven experience building, training, and deploying machine learning models in production.
• Demonstrable knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning techniques and their application to lending and credit risk.
• Exposure to neural networks, transformers, and language models, with the ability to choose the right approach for commercial objectives.
• Familiarity with ML tools/frameworks such as Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, and Databricks or Spark.
• Experience working with large datasets, including open banking, bureau, and custom client feeds.
• Proven ability to link data science work to financial outcomes such as revenue uplift, margin expansion, or risk reduction.
• Strong communication skills — able to explain modelling decisions and results to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience in credit risk or personal finance is desirable.
• Full Australian working rights are required; sponsorship may be considered for the ideal candidate.
