About The College

Tagai State College is unlike any other school in Queensland, delivering high-quality education and training across one of Australia's most remote and culturally rich regions. Badu Island Campus is one of 16 primary campuses spanning 48,000 square kilometres of ocean in the Torres Strait. With 137 students from Kindy to Year 6 — many for whom English is an additional language — this campus operates within a unique context that requires a skilled, experienced, and culturally responsive instructional leader.

Badu (Mulgrave Island) lies 60km north of Thursday Island in the Torres Strait and has around 700 residents. The main language is Kala Lagaw Ya (Western Cluster Group). Access is by fixed-wing aircraft, helicopter, or private boat. The island features a childcare centre, sports hall, council office, and small supermarket. Goods arrive via sea and air freight.

About The Role

This is an exciting leadership opportunity as Head of Campus at Badu Island for an effective educator ready to further refine and develop their skills in a unique remote setting.

The Head Of Campus At Badu Island Reports Directly To The Head Of School On Thursday Island. As The Head Of Campus, You Will

  • Deliver the vision of Education Queensland and Tagai State College
  • Improve the educational outcomes of students in the campus
  • Lead quality teaching and learning practices across the campus
  • Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.

As Head of Campus, you'll be supported by senior leaders and a dedicated Teaching and Learning team on Thursday Island, delivering curriculum, assessment, resources, and professional development to advance Tagai State College's Explicit Improvement Agenda.

You will lead and be responsible for the following key activities and tasks:
  • Lead the school community in developing and committing to a shared vision focused on quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Uphold values-based, ethical and moral leadership.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Engage in lifelong learning and professional development.
  • Form partnerships with parents, agencies, community groups and stakeholders.
  • Be future-oriented and strategic.
  • Understand policies and legislation impacting the school.
  • Manage department resources to achieve goals.
