A trainee cardiac sonographer is required to perform transthoracic echocardiograms on inpatients and outpatients of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, under the supervision of the Senior Cardiac Sonographers and cardiologists within the Cardiac Diagnostic Centre.

The trainee cardiac sonographer must work with the appointed clinical supervisor and endeavour to complete practical assessments as set out in the course requirements.

The trainee cardiac sonographer must endeavour to pass the examinations set out in the course requirements and as such must gain detailed knowledge in cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathology combined with a three dimensional conceptual understanding of sonographic anatomical appearances, normal variations and pathological processes.
