What you'll be doing

  1. As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the project team, delivering a modern data platform using Microsoft Fabric and Azure technologies. You will be responsible for building, optimising, and maintaining data pipelines, ensuring data is ingested, transformed, and made available for analytics and reporting.
  2. You will work closely with data architects, analysts, and developers to implement efficient ETL processes, integrate data from various on-premise and cloud sources, and develop scalable data models. Your role will also involve ensuring data integrity, performance, and governance through best practices in data engineering, automation, and DevOps.
  3. Key responsibilities include:
    1. Designing and developing robust ETL pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Fabric Dataflows.
    2. Managing and optimising data storage in OneLake, Data Lake Storage, or SQL-based warehouses.
    3. Implementing data quality checks, validation rules, and lineage tracking.
    4. Working with Power BI developers to ensure efficient data models for reporting.
    5. Automating deployment and monitoring using Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
    6. Collaborating with security and governance teams to ensure compliance with government standards.
    7. Supporting troubleshooting and performance tuning for data ingestion and transformation processes.

What will make you successful in this role?

  1. Focus on client needs and effective communication skills.
  2. A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  3. At least 3 years of relevant data engineering experience.
  4. Programming Skills – Python or Scala for data processing.
  5. Experience using Spark Notebooks for data transformation and processing.
  6. Solid skills in SQL, experience with transformations, data warehouses and dimensional models.
  7. Experience with Microsoft Fabric – experience working with Fabric as a unified data platform.
  8. Fabric Data Pipelines or Azure Data Factory Hands-on experience designing and building data pipelines.
  9. Proficiency in Lakehouses and Delta tables.
  10. Understanding of medallion architecture.
  11. Performance Optimisation – Knowledge of Spark, Delta tables, and performance tuning.
  12. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Skills:

  1. Experience with cloud Data Warehouse solutions like Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Azure, etc.
  2. Experience on projects where you have been the primary data modeler.
  3. Working knowledge of Cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP).
