Full Stack Engineer

Goti (Guardians of The Invoice) is building a simple and intuitive "skin-on-a-bank" payment tool to empower accountants to offer outsourced finance services seamlessly. We are an early-stage bootstrapped company preparing to launch our first product into the Australian market and rustle some feathers with our twist on how businesses should connect and pay. With early-stage comes many opportunities for growth, learning, and unlearning - we champion it all as we aim to deliver Goti to the business world and have fun doing it.
Where and how you can work
This is a full-time, hybrid opportunity. We love face-to-face time and know how important working in the same space is to building culture. But we also know it's a modern world, and working remotely is good for the soul. This is why we're looking for at least three days a week in our Melbourne-based office. Of course, for the right candidate, we can find a schedule that works for you.
The mission
Our mission: Connect the world's businesses with enhanced communications and secure payments.
What you'll be building
Our Beta product delivers on our promise to enhance payment workflows for outsourced finance firms. We're now focusing on connecting businesses with our first end-to-end product release. Our customer waitlist is growing, and we expect to live up to our mission.
We are a Typescript shop, using Next.js clientside, Node.js serverside, and a Postgres database, all deployed on AWS.
Reporting to the CEO, your immediate task is delivering our first product to our waitlist and attending to early customer feedback and requests. Beyond this, you will be expected to execute the founders' vision by building features to grow our product, enhance our payment capabilities, and optimise our B2B messaging channels.
What we're looking for
We are looking for exceptional talent with 4+ years of engineering experience and a passion for full-stack development. This role would suit someone comfortable working alone and excited about growing with a high-performing team.
You will love working with our first customers (they've been hand-picked by the founding team), getting fast feedback/usage data, and delivering on feature requests, bug fixes, and patches. You will maintain our stack and ensure maximum uptime.
As the company evolves, this role will require adaptability and a willingness to grow. We will support you and invest in your development as this happens. In turn, we expect you to show initiative, work to your strengths, identify areas for improvement, and be patient and understanding of the challenges that a start-up can face. Above all else, we value open communication and trust-based relationships; you should be able to comfortably voice your concerns, ideas, and feelings directly with the CEO.
What a typical day will look like
Goti is a very small team, and you will work intimately across all areas of the product and business. It might look a little something like this:
- Daily catchups and immediate-term task reviews with the CEO & CTO
- Customer feedback collation and analysis
- Product development and maintenance
- Product design and iteration
- Working on strategic changes to improve our product and team
This job is for you if...
Goti is an early-stage and creative company in the process of building a strong and talented team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join Goti on the ground floor, create value, and make a difference - this job is for you if:
- You have experience building with and maintaining React/Typescript, Next.js, Node.js, and Postgres
- You are comfortable working with AWS
- You have some experience with or are open to learning common Australian payment rails (BECS, NPP, BPAY, etc) - not essential, but nice to have.
- You have a strong understanding of automated testing and implementing testing frameworks
- You are professional in how you present yourself and can manage yourself and your future team under occasional high-pressure situations
- You like solving problems quickly and can identify issues and solutions concisely
- You are a great communicator and can articulate your feelings and ideas, both written and verbal.
- You believe in quality code and can balance the delivery of it with sometimes tight timelines.
- You are self-motivated and comfortable taking risks, stepping into gaps, and identifying what needs to be done
- You are a fast learner and comfortable diving into the deep end. You can apply what you learn to better yourself and those around you.
- You are growth-minded and excited by a challenge; you are open to seeking more responsibility and professional development as our business evolves.
- You can work in a small founding team and are open to building your own team.
You'll work closely with
- The CEO & CTO
- Contract staff (UI/UX, Marketing, Product)
- Third-party suppliers (Payments, OCR)
- Early customers (sometimes)
