As part of the HBT Australia division, Waratah Engineering, located in Argenton NSW is a leading manufacturer of underground board and pillar / development and longwall mining equipment. We manufacture, overhaul and support custom-built equipment including shuttle cars, feeder breakers and mobile bolters as well as offering bespoke remanufacturing services for continuous miners and other underground equipment.

About the role

The Field Service Technician - Mechanicalwill be responsible to ensure maximum performance and reliability of external customers' machines through condition monitoring, routine maintenance, and by safely, quickly and efficiently responding to breakdowns and taking the appropriate actions to prevent them.

Your primary responsibilities will include assessing, maintaining and supporting HBT development equipment on customer sites, particularly in underground mining environments. You will leverage your technical expertise to audit, repair/replace components and provide guidance on HBT equipment. You will also directly monitor the equipment in production and provide technical equipment and productivity improvement recommendations to customers that will enhance the performance and reliability of the HBT equipment.

Key Responsibilities include:

Carry out routine preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on machines to identify and rectify defects

Conduct pre / in progress / post machine inspections as required and report

Respond to breakdown requests and rectify issues as soon as possible

Provide technical assistance and advice to customers and workshop employees

Participate in workshop and mine site commissioning as required

Provide feedback to the Engineering team on current issues with machines and provide recommendations to rectify these issues in current and future machines

Assume Team Leader responsibilities on major change outs where required

Identify and implement machine improvements whilst in the field

Conduct all activities as per safety and operation policy and procedures

Please note this role is known internally as Field Service Engineer - Mechanical.

About you

Qualifications/ Experience:

Certificate IV and above qualifications are highly regarded

Trainer and assessor qualifications are highly regarded

Coal Board Medical certification

Experience with Development equipment in underground coal mines

Previous experience providing technical support for high-performance machinery

Knowledge of Hydraulics

Ability to Fault Find and Diagnose problems

Able to read, interpret drawings and schematics

Strong focus on safety

Strong logical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities

Willingness to travel to customer mine sites including extended consecutive nights away from home

Availability to support customers outside of business hours and work alternative shifts (afternoon/night/weekend) as needed

Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

Strong attention to detail, administrative skills and time management abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and Word
