Consistently voted as one of the top intern programs in Australia since 2018 (AAGE), the Public Transport Authority's (PTA) Vacation Student Program provides opportunities for current university students to work alongside experienced and skilled engineers. This experience helps students develop an understanding of the PTA's business and apply their skills in a practical setting.

The PTA is a leader in delivering world-class public transport services and solutions. The rapid expansion of Western Australia's economy has increased the demand for efficient public transport, leading to the development of Australia's premier public transport network, known for being efficient, safe, and eco-friendly.

About the role :

The PTA offers an exciting opportunity for students studying a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil (or equivalent) to join our Vacation Student Program. The program lasts twelve weeks, from Monday 24 November 2025 to Friday 13 February 2026. During this time, you will be assigned a workplace supervisor and will complete meaningful work that contributes to the PTA. You will also join a networking group connecting you with current and former PTA graduates.

How to Apply

To apply for the 2025 Vacation Student Program, you MUST:

  • Be currently studying towards a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil (or equivalent). Preference will be given to students in their penultimate year.
  • Be available for the full 12-week program.

Applications should include:

  • A current CV;
  • A recent Academic Transcript to verify your WAM;
  • Details on the online application form:
    • Indicate your interested discipline;
    • Explain why you are applying for this program;
    • Provide two work-related references;
    • Confirm your enrollment status and that you will return to your studies in 2025.

Shortlisted applicants may be asked to undertake psychometric testing. WAM, current year of study, and test results will be part of the assessment. Please see the Vacation Student Recruitment Process Map for details on the process and timelines.

While preference is given to Australian permanent residents or citizens, we may consider candidates with temporary working visas, provided they allow residence and work in Australia until November 2025.
