Braemar College, an independent, co-educational, ecumenical school located in Victoria's Mt Macedon, is seeking an experienced and dynamic educational leader to take on the role of Head of Middle School at their newly developed Woodend Campus, which provides modern facilities and opportunities for our students.
School Overview
Braemar College is an independent, co-educational, ecumenical school catering to students from Years 5 to 12.
Situated in a stunning and secure bushland setting on Mount Macedon—just 64 kilometers north-west of Melbourne—Braemar offers a unique, nurturing environment where students are supported to grow, learn, and thrive.
With a strong record of academic achievement, the College also offers diverse vocational pathways, along with rich arts and sporting programs that encourage every student to explore their passions and potential.
Role Purpose
The position is a significant leadership and management role and is a member of the College Senior Leadership Team.
The purpose of this role is to lead and manage the Middle School, Years 5 to 8. It involves educational leadership in its widest sense, ensuring that it is highly reflective of the College's Strategic Plan and policies. This role will involve the maintaining of a safe learning environment where appropriate behaviours are modelled and promoted. The position interacts professionally with parents, staff, students and the broader community. The role provides inspiration to others through exceptional visionary educational leadership.
Reporting Relationships
In the first instance the Head of School reports to the Principal; however, will also be responsible to a member of the Leadership Team that is assuming such delegation of authority. This position is responsible for leading the Assistant Head of Middle School and the Year Level Leaders. This position will also involve working collaboratively with the College Leadership Team as well as taking occasional direction from members of the College Leadership Team. The position provides guidance to and works collaboratively with Educational Support Staff and provides daily supervision of those who are working at the Woodend Campus.
Accountabilities (abridged; full details in Candidate Information Pack)
- To lead, deliver and promote the Middle Years culture, ensuring it is reflective of the College's Strategic Plan
- To ensure the administration and operation of the Middle Years including ensuring the special events and activities are well organised and implemented
- To lead the Wellbeing program including policy and strategy recommendations regarding student wellbeing at the College, in conjunction with the Assistant Head of Middle School Year Level Leaders and other leaders
- To infuse and embed outstanding learning and teaching practices in conjunction with the Dean of Learning and Teaching
The Student Experience
- Commit to continuous improvement in the Middle School aligned with the College's Strategic Plan
- Manage student wellbeing and ensuring a safe learning environment where appropriate behaviours are modelled and promoted
Authentic Leadership
- Lead a team of staff including the Assistant Head of Middle School and the Middle School Year Level Leaders
- Facilitate opportunities for teachers to work collaboratively within your area
Sustainable Operations
- Take responsibility and be accountable for the day to day management and supervision of Middle School staff
- Provide the first contact point for Middle School matters, liaising with parents, students, teachers and educational support staff as required
Engaged Community
- Maintain excellent levels of communication with the College community including writing articles for school publications and parent, student correspondence
- Present to staff, parents and students at College events

- A sound knowledge of effective teaching pedagogies and practices
- Experience leading and managing cohesive teams
