We are seeking to appoint a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Head of Faculty – Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) & Classroom Teacher to our Senior School commencing in Term 1, 2026.
The Head of Faculty – TAS is responsible for ensuring students are inspired to pursue their passions and are given every opportunity for academic success.
The successful candidate will provide leadership and oversight of all TAS subjects within a highly collaborative environment. They will work to empower staff, embody reflective practices, bring a high degree of subject-specific knowledge and work hard to build the leadership capacity of all members of the team.
The HOF-TAS will be a champion and advocate for high quality learning and teaching within the team and the Senior School and exemplify the HVGS learning principles in practice. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of concept-based teaching and learning, the design cycle in practice and, ideally, the IB programmes as well as the NSW curriculum.
Work Pattern: This position is on campus from 8:00 am until at least 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday, each school day in accordance with the published term dates.
Key Duties- Fulfil the responsibilities of a Hunter Valley Grammar School teacher, upholding the School's values, motto and mission as detailed in staff policies and the Staff Code of Conduct.
- Be proactive in providing an academically challenging, stimulating and safe environment for students to succeed and flourish.
- Foster a commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration, and sharing of knowledge and information with colleagues.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to develop and deliver engaging programs of inquiry, based on the International Baccalaureate framework, which comply with all NESA requirements.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) and/or a strong willingness to engage in IB professional learning.
- Demonstrate a deep commitment to knowing each and every student in the classroom, and building strong partnerships for learning with each student.
- Demonstrate an active understanding of documented Personalised Learning Plans and Class Plans for those students requiring identified support and/or differentiation.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Engage actively in the wellbeing program of the School, including taking a Mentor Group each morning (and during scheduled wellbeing periods), and fulfilling all aspects of the mentor role to a high standard.
- Actively support student engagement in the service learning program(s) of the School, both within the classroom and beyond.
- Teach an adjusted load of classes as determined by the needs of the timetable.
- Attend all identified assemblies, sporting carnivals, meetings and Professional Learning days as required.
- Attend Parent/Teacher evenings, presentation ceremonies and other identified school functions as determined by the Principal, (some which are outside of normal working hours).
- Attend an annual school camp/trip and fulfil timetabled requirements for playground and bus duties.
- Contribute meaningfully to the school's co-curricular program of activities, in accordance with the expectations of all teaching staff, and in areas of interest or expertise.
- Lead, co-ordinate and manage all aspects of teaching and learning in the faculty, including the implementation of new courses and programmes.
- Model pedagogical leadership by embedding assessment for learning, quality differentiation in response to student diversity, intercultural competencies and restorative practices in the classroom.
- Lead the development of differentiation practices to ensure learning is accessible to all students and work collaboratively with the student services team on assessment and programming support for diverse learners.
- Engage meaningfully and actively as a member of the Teaching & Learning Committee with collaborative responsibility for student success, innovation in learning and teaching, and creating and embedding opportunities for student agency.
- Model a culture of collaboration that engenders trust, care, compassion, transparency, responsibility, and accountability.
- Ensure curriculum oversight for IB and NESA aligned Visual Arts Studies courses in Stage 4, Stage 5 & Stage 6.
- Ensure curriculum mapping and documentation is completed to facilitate interdisciplinary thinking and learning.
- Use data to inform teaching and learning decisions within the faculty, and work to build the data literacy of the team.
- Oversee student engagement in Faculty courses by liaising with Faculty staff regarding student progress, attainment and academic engagement and work collaboratively with the Senior School wellbeing team on student-related issues.
- Support the ongoing professional growth of staff in the faculty and put into practice the HVGS Professional Growth Cycle.
- Oversee implementation of NESA/IB, school policy and faculty practices with regard to: Curriculum documentation and assessment; Workplace health and safety; Placement of students in suitable classes within the Faculty, as applicable; Development of literacy and numeracy skills; Meaningful home learning; Acquisition and effective utilisation of resources and materials for practical classes; Promotion of positive culture and professionalism; Using restorative practices within the classroom.
- Maintain accurate asset registers of all equipment relevant to the faculty and ensure that the faculty is always equipped to carry out its objectives.
- Create faculty budgets for approval annually and actively monitor expenditure in relation to the annual Visual Arts Faculty budget.
