Job description

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Ahpra is committed to providing a culturally safe work environment that reflects the diversity of the communities in which we operate and serve.

This is a full-time, ongoing role based in Melbourne, with a hybrid work arrangement.

The Finance Director role is a pivotal leadership position responsible for ensuring financial sustainability across Ahpra's 15 National Boards. This role involves influencing stakeholders, shaping fee-setting strategies, leading team management, and driving long-term financial forecasting to support informed decision-making and resilience.

In this role, you will collaborate with senior leaders, National Board members, and other stakeholders to develop and implement financial strategies aligned with Ahpra's objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Strategic Stakeholder Engagement: Building strong relationships with National Boards and external partners to align financial planning with regulatory priorities.
  2. Fee-Setting and Financial Sustainability: Leading the development and consultation of fee strategies based on cost-recovery principles to ensure sustainability.
  3. Long-Term Forecasting and Analysis: Overseeing the preparation of financial models and forecasts to anticipate future needs and mitigate risks.
  4. Team Leadership and Development: Developing a high-performing team, fostering continuous improvement, and driving operational excellence.
  5. Insight-Driven Decision Making: Providing expert advice by translating complex financial data into actionable insights for senior leaders.

This role offers an opportunity to lead transformational financial strategies that underpin the regulation of Australia's health professionals, ensuring sustainability in a changing economic landscape. It is ideal for an experienced finance leader eager to shape the financial direction of Australia's healthcare regulation and contribute to the success of the National Boards.

About You

  • A strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate challenges and leverage opportunities.
  • Leadership skills to develop and inspire a team, fostering innovation and efficiency.
  • Deep understanding of economic trends and financial risks related to regulation or healthcare.

If you are passionate about using your financial expertise to shape healthcare regulation, we encourage you to apply. This role allows you to make a lasting impact by leading initiatives that safeguard public safety and promote financial sustainability.
