The Opportunity

The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC)/University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) Road Safety Research Collaboration, an interdisciplinary research group focused on improving road safety through evidence-based studies, is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Casual Research Assistants to support a new research project involving participants prescribed medicinal cannabis. This hands-on role involves direct participant interaction and high-quality data collection.

Applicants will contribute to a multi-method study on the effects of medicinal cannabis on driving behaviors and cognitive function. Tasks include administering neuropsychological tests, collecting oral fluid samples, conducting interviews, and ensuring ethical data handling.

If you are currently completing or have completed your third year in Psychology, Criminology, or a related field—and are highly organized, professional, and comfortable working independently and in a team—this is a valuable opportunity to gain research experience with real-world impact.

You will

  • collect oral fluid samples using approved procedures;
  • administer neuropsychological tests;
  • conduct qualitative interviews and support participant engagement;
  • schedule and confirm testing appointments;
  • perform data entry, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality;
  • maintain comprehensive research documentation;
  • assist with administrative tasks;
  • follow research protocols and standards; and
  • contribute to a respectful and inclusive research environment.

About you

You are organized, dependable, and passionate about high-quality research. You have a strong work ethic, professional demeanor, and communicate respectfully with participants. You follow directions well and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.

You will possess:

  • Enrolment in or completion of third year of Psychology, Criminology, or a related discipline (required);
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to follow detailed protocols;
  • Attention to detail and organization;
  • Capacity to handle sensitive data ethically;
  • Willingness to travel within 75 km of Sippy Downs (mandatory);
  • A valid driver's license (desirable);
  • Experience in data collection (desirable).
