Overview

Permanent / Part Time position located in Proserpine. Salary: $68,274 to $77,873 per annum. The Whitsunday Regional Council is at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, serving the Whitsunday Islands and coastal and rural communities including Proserpine and Collinsville.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Tradesperson (Diesel Fitter) to ensure the reliability, safety and compliance of the Council\'s plant and fleet assets. This role involves hands-on diagnostics, repairs and preventive maintenance to support essential community services.

Responsibilities

• Fleet maintenance and repairs: Diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance on Council\'s fleet assets.
• Outsourced services coordination: Engage and manage suitably qualified external providers for specialised repairs and maintenance.
• Compliance assurance: Ensure all fleet, plant, equipment and workshop environments comply with statutory regulations.

Your skills and experienceEssential

• C Class Open Licence.
• Trade qualification in Mechanical (Diesel Fitter) and suitable trade experience.
• Knowledge in Metal Arc Welding / MIG / Oxy cutting and welding.
• Ability to work independently or in a small team environment.
• Knowledge of operations and maintenance of a diverse range of vehicles, plant and equipment.
• General Construction Safety Induction (White Card).

Desirable

• Knowledge and experience in multiple mechanical trade disciplines such as hydraulic, auto electrics, fabrication etc.
• Additional licences for operating specialised equipment are advantageous (HR Class, High Risk work, Air conditioning or Refrigerant Handling Licences etc.).
• Other relevant trade certificates in vehicle, plant and truck repair works.
