We are seeking professional, self-motivated, driven, and enthusiastic individuals to be part of our team at John's Coffee House & Tavern, located within Code Hostel – The Court. This establishment is within a luxury hostel / Boutique Capsule Hotel on the Royal Mile with CoDE - The CoURT.

CoDE offers high-quality accommodation in a combination of double and multi-share Pod bedrooms. Our location just off The Royal Mile opened in mid-August 2019 and features over 200 beds, social areas, all designed to the highest standards, in keeping with the historic building we occupy. Our original site in Edinburgh on Rose Street is nine years old and consistently ranks as one of the top-rated accommodations in the city across all review platforms.

We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team. This role supports the kitchen and front-of-house teams to deliver quality food and maintain a clean, welcoming environment for our guests.

WHO YOU ARE

We seek someone passionate about maintaining high standards as the CoDE family grows.

We are looking for candidates interested in full-time employment—40 hours per week.

Working hours available are 6 am - 2:30 pm or 3 pm - 11:30 pm.

Key Responsibilities :
  1. Assist in preparing and presenting high-quality dishes according to our menu standards.
  2. Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including barista-style coffee and alcoholic drinks.
  3. Provide friendly and efficient service at the bar and coffee counter.
  4. Ensure stock is received, checked, stored correctly; report shortages or discrepancies to the Duty Manager.
  5. Maintain stock rotation and monitor use-by dates to reduce waste.
  6. Identify and report equipment faults or hazards to the Duty Manager promptly.
  7. Adapt to varying levels of business, including special events and group bookings.
  8. Support with deliveries and maintain cleanliness and order in food storage areas.
  9. Keep all kitchen and prep equipment clean and in good condition.
  10. Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and public areas during and after service.
  11. Follow food hygiene and safety procedures in line with current legislation.
  12. Attend and complete all required training.
  13. Assist with stock checks and inventories.

  • Someone proactive and adaptable in a busy hospitality environment.
  • Previous kitchen or hospitality experience is beneficial but not essential—training will be provided.

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety policies for staff and guests.
  • Ensure doors are locked.
  • Report maintenance needs.
  • Report lost & found items.
  • Keep common areas clean and tidy for guests.
  • Provide feedback on guest comments.
